Blur’s Alex James Launches ‘Britpop Classical’ UK Tour
Blur bassist Alex James has announced a full UK run for his new live project Britpop Classical, opening at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 11 March 2026 before hitting major cities through spring and summer. The announcement, first detailed by Radio X, confirms stops including Birmingham, Manchester, Brighton, Nottingham, Newcastle, Glasgow and Sheffield, plus outdoor summer dates such as Scarborough, Halifax, Llangollen and Margate.
According to the event listing at Live Nation, the Royal Albert Hall opener is billed as “Alex James’ Britpop Classical” with doors at 7pm and show at 8pm. A dedicated site for the production, BritpopClassical.com, outlines the concept: 1990s anthems reimagined with a full orchestra and special guests. The Albert Hall’s listing also highlights the guest vocalists—Phil Daniels, Saffron (Republica) and Gary Stringer (Reef)—who will appear across the run (Royal Albert Hall).
James has framed the show as a way to present Britpop to multiple generations. As quoted by MusicRadar, he said: “Somehow all of these songs mean more to people now than they did when they were first released… Bringing them back to life with a symphony orchestra, a kick ass band, some old friends and very special guests totally blew the roof off at Feastival and I absolutely cannot wait to get this show on the road.” MusicRadar also notes that the production involves the London Concert Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, underscoring the scale of the arrangements.
Dates and ticketing links are being aggregated via official partners, with a full schedule carried by Radio X and on retailers such as See Tickets. For Britpop fans—and younger listeners discovering these songs through streaming—Britpop Classical positions James as curator-in-chief, reframing staples like Blur’s “The Universal,” Oasis’ “The Masterplan,” The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony,” and Pulp’s “Something Changed” for a symphonic stage (MusicRadar).
