Daniel Craig Got Into Costly Fight With Neighbor

Daniel Craig, the James Bond actor, and his Oscar-winning wife, actress Rachel Weisz, have announced plans to cut down trees in their back garden, ostensibly to avoid another feud with their neighbours, Daily Mail reports. The Hollywood couple got into a fight five years ago over a massive plane tree growing behind their £6 million Camden townhouse, which a neighbour claimed was causing damage to his property.

Alasdair Nisbet claimed the massive 50-metre-high tree was causing cracks in his Victorian home and petitioned Camden Council to have it removed. Other residents reacted angrily, claiming that removing it would be “upsetting and unnecessary.”

The tree was eventually saved after stars Craig and Weisz, who have been married for 11 years, filed a counter-application to the council, offering to trim the tree instead. Camden Council issued a Tree Protection Order for the plane, saying it added to the character of the neighbourhood, and that cracks in the neighbouring property were more likely caused by a sewer pipe.

Craig, 48, and his wife Rachel Weisz, 46, have now filed a new application to cut down the tree, as well as another plane and pear tree that has become overgrown with ivy and rose. According to the application, which was submitted on their behalf by planning agent Stephanie Radziwillowicz, the plane trees “need maintenance to slow root expansion and improve light.” It intends to cut the trees down by 2.4m all around, “to previous reduction points.”

It goes on to say that the pear tree “has outgrown its location” and recommends pruning it by one metre, as well as pruning the rose and removing as much ivy as possible. Members of the public have made no official comments. Camden Council’s planning department is expected to rule on the application soon.
