Off Campus Star Ella Bright Played Young Kate
Actress Ms Ella Bright, now one of Prime Video’s breakout names thanks to the college drama Off Campus, has been highlighted for an earlier role portraying a young Princess of Wales in Netflix’s The Crown. The renewed attention follows the series’ rapid rise on streaming charts since its first season arrived in May.
Hello Magazine reported that Ms Bright, 19, appeared as a young Kate Middleton in episode seven of The Crown season six, titled “Alma Mater”, in a scene in which the character meets Diana, Princess of Wales, and Prince William while out in London at Christmas.
The same report said Ms Bright was 16 when she filmed the Netflix series and later described the part as a “daunting task”, explaining she researched interviews and worked with a dialect coach to hone the accent. The Princess of Wales during her university years was played by Ms Meg Bellamy in the series.
Ms Bright’s current profile has grown sharply with Off Campus, in which she plays music major Hannah Wells opposite actor Mr Belmont Cameli as hockey captain Garrett Graham. The show is based on author Ms Elle Kennedy’s romance novels, with the first season adapting The Deal and following an arrangement in which Hannah tutors Garrett in exchange for a fake-dating storyline.
The spotlight on portrayals of the Princess of Wales on screen comes amid continued public interest in her style and appearances, including when a 2006 halterneck dress worn by Princess Kate resurfaced in recent coverage.
For Ms Bright, the rediscovered The Crown footage adds another chapter to an early career now accelerated by a streaming hit, as audiences revisit her previous work alongside her latest leading role.
