Scooter Braun Says He Barely Knows Taylor Swift
Music executive Scooter Braun has revisited his long-running dispute with Taylor Swift, saying he has had only limited personal contact with the singer despite their highly public clash over her master recordings. Braun made the comments on a recent podcast appearance, where he described himself as still “confused” by how quickly the situation turned into a public feud.
Speaking on the “Second Thought” podcast, Page Six reported that Braun said he has met Swift “three times” and has “never had a substantial conversation with her,” despite the scale of the backlash that followed his acquisition of her catalogue.
Braun, 44, also claimed Swift once invited him to a private party and told him she had “the utmost respect” for him, but maintained that was the extent of their interactions. He said the controversy had the effect of highlighting how artists increasingly push to own their masters, calling that shift “great.”
The feud dates back to 2019, when Braun purchased the rights to Swift’s first six albums through the acquisition of Big Machine Records, a deal Swift publicly criticised at the time. In 2025, Swift said she bought back her masters from Shamrock Capital after re-recording several albums, as scrutiny around ownership disputes has continued across the industry, including in cases involving Braun’s former clients such as Justin Bieber, who gave up millions after a legal dispute.
While Braun said he wished Swift “nothing but the best,” his remarks underline how the business and personal narratives around music rights can diverge sharply, with the Swift saga continuing to be viewed as a landmark moment in modern artist ownership.
