Author Calls Andrew, Fergie ‘Bonnie and Clyde’
Royal author Andrew Lownie has claimed Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, were bound together by an unusual post-divorce arrangement that he describes as more transactional than romantic, as scrutiny over Andrew’s links to Jeffrey Epstein continues to generate headlines.
Fox News reported that Lownie said he viewed the former couple as the royal family’s “Bonnie and Clyde”, arguing their decision to keep living together after their 1996 divorce was rooted in what he called a “professional business relationship”.
In comments to Fox News Digital, Mr Lownie said Sarah’s proximity to Andrew helped her commercially, while he suggested Andrew valued the “comfort” of appearing to have a settled family life despite their separation. The author also alleged that both had affairs during the marriage, and that the pair lived “at opposite ends” of a large home while maintaining separate lives.
The claims come as renewed attention surrounds the Duke of York’s association with Epstein, including reporting that Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and later released, while he has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and has not been criminally charged. BritpopNews has previously followed the ongoing fallout, including reports that a police probe into Prince Andrew reportedly expanded further.
Lownie’s extended edition of his book Entitled revisits the couple’s history from their 1986 marriage through the public scandals that followed, as well as the way their continued closeness has been perceived as the royal family faces wider questions about reputation management.
