Britney Spears Asks Media to Stop Sharing Past
Britney Spears has addressed renewed attention on her March DUI arrest, asking for more respect as online discussion resurfaces around her case. The pop star posted a message on Instagram on May 25 in which she said ongoing “chatter” has affected her mental health, as scrutiny increased following the release of dashcam video connected to the arrest.
Spears said she can sense “too much chatter” going on behind her back and suggested it can have a real impact on people, while also offering a conciliatory note toward those discussing her. In the same post, InStyle reported that she added she hoped the media would “respect” what she described as an “unbelievable and miraculous spiritual journey”, and asked that outlets stop showing “embarrassing things” from her past.
The statement comes after Spears’ legal situation earlier this year, with InStyle noting she pleaded guilty to “wet reckless” driving and voluntarily checked herself into rehab in April. The post also referenced developments in her personal life, including her relationship with her sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, whom she mentioned while discussing her recent period of recovery.
Her comments follow previous Britpop News reporting that she entered out-of-state treatment indefinitely after the arrest, as those close to the singer urged her to seek help.
Spears ended her message on an upbeat note about embracing her next chapter and focusing on small joys, as she again pushed back against the intensity of media coverage that has followed her for much of her career.
