Residents vote to keep Andrew Avenue name
Residents in a Renfrewshire neighbourhood have moved to keep a street name linked to Prince Andrew, after a local consultation found most respondents opposed renaming Andrew Avenue despite concerns raised over its association with the disgraced royal.
Only 22 of 52 households responded to the consultation and a majority objected to a change, citing the disruption of updating documents and addresses, Yahoo reported in a write-up credited to Reality Tea.
Andrew Avenue sits among roads named after Queen Elizabeth II’s children — including Charles Avenue, Anne Avenue and Edward Avenue — and the review was launched last year after concerns were raised about the former Duke of York. According to the report, some residents said they had never connected the street name with Prince Andrew until the discussion began, while one local, Ms Yvonne Laidlaw, said the name had simply always been part of daily life.
