Prince William Reportedly Used Alias at St Andrews
Prince William is said to have used a fake name while studying at the University of St Andrews, in an effort to keep a low profile during his time as an undergraduate in Scotland.
The Prince of Wales went by the nickname “Steve” among friends during his four-year Master of Arts degree, a move intended to help him avoid unnecessary attention on campus, Express reported.
The report also notes that Prince William and the then Kate Middleton met in their first year at St Andrews, where he initially studied art history before switching to geography ahead of graduating in June 2005. It adds that news outlets at the time agreed not to publish paparazzi photographs of him while he was at university.
In later years, the Prince and Princess of Wales have maintained a careful approach to family privacy, including moments such as marking a milestone anniversary with a new family photograph shared publicly.
The account offers another glimpse into how the future King sought normality in early adulthood, and how that preference for private family life has continued to shape his public and personal choices.
