Trump Calls King Charles a ‘Great Guy’ in Texts
US President Donald Trump has described King Charles as “a great guy” in a private text exchange shared publicly by broadcaster Mr Piers Morgan, according to a new report. The messages, which also referenced the state dinner during the King and Queen Camilla’s recent visit, offer a snapshot of the President’s reaction to the royal state visit and its political and diplomatic symbolism.
Hello Magazine reported that Mr Morgan posted details of his texts with President Trump, quoting the President as saying King Charles is “a great guy” and calling the state dinner “a wonderful evening, very special.”
The article said the exchange followed the King and Queen Camilla’s four-day US visit, during which King Charles addressed a joint meeting of Congress and the programme included events in Washington, D.C. It also reported that President Trump had previously described the monarch as “the greatest King” as the visit concluded, and praised the King and Queen as “really great people”.
In Britpop News’ recent coverage of the same visit, Donald Trump and Melania Trump skipping a bow for King Charles was among the moments that drew attention as the royals met political leaders and attended ceremonial engagements.
The White House trip has been framed as an exercise in “soft power”, and the fresh text claims are likely to keep focus on how the US President characterises the relationship as King Charles continues his overseas schedule.
