Hilary Duff Says Child-Star Docs Made Her Sad
Ms Hilary Duff has said she feels “quite sad” watching documentaries about exploited child stars, including projects focusing on Britney Spears, as she reflected on growing up in the spotlight. The former Disney Channel star spoke about her experiences during an appearance at the TIME100 Summit in Manhattan.
Duff said that while films and series about the darker side of children’s television can be difficult to watch, she feels fortunate her own career did not leave lasting “battle wounds”, Variety reported. She added that she has “held a job as an adult since I was nine years old” and described having missed experiences alongside many positive ones.
During the discussion, Duff said early responsibility shaped her and required her to “hold my own in a room full of adults constantly”, including being expected to remain professional through exhaustion or illness. She also told the audience she is now “finally taking some ownership” of her life, describing her upcoming album Luck… or Something as her boldest and most self-assured work in more than a decade.
In recent weeks, Duff has continued to attract attention for her changing public image, with one entertainment item noting that her latest look drew comparisons to Madonna.
Duff is due to tour behind the new music with “The Lucky Me Tour”, which she said is set to begin in June and run through February 2027.
