John Oliver slams royal family, targets Prince Andrew
Comedian and broadcaster John Oliver has criticised the Royal Family and singled out Prince Andrew in fresh remarks made during a charity comedy event in New York this week.
Speaking at the Garden of Laughs at Radio City Music Hall on 14 April, Oliver said he was “not a fan” of the royals and described their behaviour over the years as “horrendous”, Page Six reported.
Oliver, 48, reserved his sharpest comments for Prince Andrew, saying that if he believed in hell, that was where the Duke of York would end up, and adding he had “very little respect” for Andrew even before the controversy surrounding the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
In the interview, Oliver also questioned whether there would be true accountability for Epstein’s victims, referencing Virginia Giuffre’s allegation that she was forced to have sex with Andrew when she was underage, a claim the Duke has denied. The report noted that Andrew settled Giuffre’s civil lawsuit in 2022 for an estimated $12 million.
Oliver made the comments while attending the annual Garden of Laughs fundraiser, which raises money for the Garden of Dreams Foundation and also featured comedians including Ronny Chieng, Hasan Minhaj and Iliza Shlesinger.
