Britney Spears ‘Terrified’ Ahead of May DUI Court Date
Ms. Britney Spears has reportedly checked into rehab and is reaching out to her sons as she prepares to appear in court next month following a drink-driving arrest in California. A new report says the singer is anxious about the legal case and concerned about how the incident could affect her already fragile relationship with her children.
IBTimes UK reported that Ms. Spears was taken into custody in Ventura, California, on 4 March after allegedly driving erratically and showing signs of being under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and is due at Ventura County Superior Court on 4 May.
The outlet said sources claimed she has been repeatedly phoning and messaging her sons Sean and Jayden Federline to apologise and to promise she is “committed to doing better” as she tries to rebuild trust. The report also described heightened concern among people around her as the court date approaches, with one insider saying she is under increased scrutiny and that the pressure could affect her recovery.
According to the same reporting, Ms. Spears entered a rehab facility in early April, with a representative confirming she checked in on 12 April; BritpopNews previously tracked the developing case in coverage of Britney Spears facing court after a DUI arrest as attention turned to potential legal consequences.
Ms. Spears’ conservatorship, which ran from 2008 to 2021, remains a sensitive backdrop to any effort by friends or family to intervene, the report added, with sources suggesting she can be wary of feeling controlled. Representatives for Ms. Spears have described the alleged drink-driving incident as “completely inexcusable” while expressing hope that compliance with the law and treatment could be the first step toward longer-term change.
