Meghan Markle Urged to Condemn Online Trolls
Meghan Markle has been urged to take public action against abusive online accounts linked to her fanbase as she prepares for a planned trip to Australia next month. The intervention comes amid renewed scrutiny of the Duchess of Sussex’s public image as she promotes her lifestyle brand As Ever and continues to frame her work around online safety.
Express columnist Ms Rebecca Russell wrote that a social-media account accused of targeting the Princess of Wales, including making claims about her cancer announcement, was among supporters said to have been invited to a glossy “girls weekend away” during the Australia visit.
The column argues that while there is no suggestion the Duchess knows the individuals behind such accounts, she should condemn what it describes as “hate speech” and revoke access to events if she wants to avoid being defined by the most aggressive elements of her online support. It also claims that any perceived failure to act could complicate efforts to ease tensions with the Royal Family.
The criticism follows previous coverage of Meghan’s public-facing events, with her retreat plans facing fan backlash in separate reporting as online debate around As Ever and the Sussexes’ engagements continues.
Meghan and Prince Harry have previously spoken about the need for safer online spaces, and any formal response to the claims could shape how their next overseas engagements are received.
