Usher denies ‘heated exchange’ with Justin Bieber
Usher has played down reports of a backstage row with Justin Bieber after claims circulated that the two singers had an “intense” confrontation at Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Oscars afterparty in Los Angeles earlier this month.
Page Six reported that rapper Ms Da Brat said Usher told her a recent account of the encounter was “exaggerated”, adding that he had been “nothing but supportive” of Bieber over the years and that there was “no hostility” between them.
Speaking on “The Rickey Smiley Show”, Da Brat said she had spoken to Usher directly and that he believed people had taken what they saw “out of context”. She also said the pair “definitely love each other” and remain supportive, after earlier reports suggested the exchange did not become physical but was still described as “intense”.
The latest comments come amid ongoing interest in the pair’s relationship as mentor and protégé, with Usher having helped usher Bieber into the spotlight in the early stages of his career. Britpop News previously covered claims about the alleged incident in reports of a heated clash at an Oscars party, before Usher’s camp moved to challenge the tone of the story.
Page Six said it contacted representatives for both artists but did not receive a response. The outlet also noted that sources had previously claimed Bieber has been “on his own journey” and has been reassessing parts of his past, while Usher has continued to publicly frame his role as a supportive mentor.
