Britney Spears Mugshot Withheld After DUI Arrest
Britney Spears’ booking photo from her recent DUI arrest will not be released publicly, according to a report citing Ventura County officials. The singer, 44, was arrested last week in Ventura County, California, and is due to appear in court on 4 May.
Daily Mail reported that the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office determined Spears’ mugshot did not meet the department’s requirements for release, describing it as discretionary under policy.
The report said the department’s policy is to release booking photos for violent crimes or when an individual poses an immediate threat to the public, adding that the charge against Spears did not fall into those categories. It also said the sheriff’s office and Spears’ representative were contacted for comment.
Spears’ arrest has drawn renewed attention after a string of recent headlines involving the pop star, including claims that police denied she led officers on a pursuit in the incident preceding her booking.
The decision to withhold the booking image means Spears will avoid the public circulation of a mugshot that often follows celebrity arrests, as the legal process continues ahead of her scheduled court hearing.
