Prince William’s Six Words After Andrew Approach
Prince William was said to be visibly uncomfortable when Prince Andrew approached him following the Duchess of Kent’s funeral at Westminster Abbey in 2025, with a lip reader later suggesting the Prince of Wales responded to Princess Catherine with a pointed six-word question.
After Prince Andrew moved away, a lip reader on Channel 5’s Lipreading the Royals claimed Princess Catherine remarked that Andrew “seemed very sorry”, and that William replied: “Do you think I deserve that?”, Express.co.uk reported.
The programme also attributed words to Andrew during the exchange, with lip reader Ms Nicola Hinckley saying he appeared to ask William for forgiveness and told him he had “learned from what I’ve done”, adding that William did not reply at the time.
Body language expert Ms Adrienne Carter, speaking on the same broadcast, said William’s posture suggested he did not want to be photographed engaging with his uncle, while royal commentator Mr Dickie Arbiter said William’s expression indicated he did not want to converse with Andrew and that Andrew “probably got the message”.
The alleged encounter has added to scrutiny of the relationship between the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York, following earlier claims that William “held a grudge” over a reported snub involving Andrew.
The exchange was discussed in the context of wider public concern about Prince Andrew’s standing, with the show’s contributors arguing that any public association could be damaging for the monarchy’s image.
