Prince William Quote Recalled After 2007 Split
A new account of the Prince and Princess of Wales’ early relationship has revisited the brief 2007 split between Prince William and Catherine, then known as Kate Middleton, and a remark he is said to have made in the immediate aftermath. Hello Magazine reported that a new book by royal editor Mr Russell Myers claims William told a senior courtier “At least she is free” after he made the decision to end the relationship in 2007.
The book, titled William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, says William initiated the split after the couple’s relationship—which began at the University of St Andrews and became public in 2004—hit a difficult period. According to the reporting, the remark was interpreted as a reference to the intense expectations attached to William’s role and the scrutiny that would come with being his wife, as the future Queen.
The couple reconciled later in 2007 and went on to marry at Westminster Abbey in 2011, later becoming parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
