Donald Trump calls Prince Andrew arrest ‘sad’
President Donald Trump has commented publicly on the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, calling the situation “so bad for the royal family” as the investigation into alleged misconduct in public office continues in the UK. Mr Trump made the remarks while speaking to reporters as he travelled aboard Air Force One, adding fresh international attention to an already high-profile case involving King Charles’ younger brother.
Describing the arrest as “a shame” and “very sad”, Mr Trump also praised King Charles as “a fantastic man” and said the monarch would be visiting the United States “very soon”, Hello Magazine reported.
According to the same report, Andrew, 66, was arrested at his home on Thursday morning—his birthday—on suspicion of misconduct in public office, with Thames Valley Police saying officers carried out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk as part of the investigation. The article said he was later released, with police stating he was “released under investigation”, and that searches in Norfolk had concluded while work in Berkshire was continuing.
The report also said Buckingham Palace issued a statement from King Charles in which he expressed “deepest concern” and emphasised that “the law must take its course,” while adding that it would not be right for him to comment further as the process continues.
Mr Trump’s intervention underscores how the fallout from the arrest is reverberating well beyond the UK, as the Royal Family faces further scrutiny while police enquiries remain ongoing.
