Royal Experts Warn Over Wales Statement
Commentators have intensified criticism of the Prince and Princess of Wales after Kensington Palace issued a brief response to fresh revelations linked to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, with some voices warning the controversy risks deepening wider doubts about the monarchy.
The Mirror reported that a Kensington Palace spokesperson, speaking on behalf of Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, said the couple had been “deeply concerned by the continuing revelations” and that their thoughts “remain focused on the victims”.
The statement prompted sharp reaction from columnist Ms Amanda Platell, who described the wording as “wishy washy” and argued the couple should take a stronger public stance to distance themselves from Andrew’s past associations. The criticism built on a week of scrutiny that has included claims about how William is navigating the fallout, including previous Britpop News reporting in which Prince William was confronted in Riyadh over the Royal Family’s Epstein response.
The Mirror also cited broadcaster Mr Piers Morgan as questioning whether the Palace response went far enough, while former royal photographer Mr Ian Pelham Turner was quoted raising concerns about persistent rumours that Andrew could pursue a “kiss-and-tell” book.
The episode underlines the challenge facing senior royals as they attempt to keep focus on official duties while managing reputational damage, with observers suggesting future statements may be judged on whether they offer clearer condemnation and support for those affected.
