Meghan Markle criticised over As Ever Valentine’s post
Meghan Markle has faced a new wave of online criticism after her lifestyle brand As Ever posted Valentine’s-themed promotional images for its fruit spreads. The images, shared on the company’s official Instagram account, prompted mixed reactions from social media users, with some questioning the styling and props used alongside the products.
In the post, As Ever asked followers: “Which one are you: Strawberry or Raspberry? Place your order today to receive by Valentine’s Day.” Express reported that the strawberry image featured items including a red silk clutch with an “M” initial, perfume, a spoon, a strawberry on a saucer and a red leather glove, while the raspberry image included gold earrings, a raspberry-coloured bag, a notebook and lipstick alongside the spread and a limited-edition dark chocolate with raspberry.
Criticism focused on what some users described as a confusing assortment of accessories and a mismatch between the brand’s messaging and its presentation. Comments shared in the report included one user describing the images as a “gaudy display” and another calling the post “pathetic”, while others questioned what the marketing “message” was intended to be.
Not all reactions were negative, with some fans responding positively on Instagram and praising the look of the photographs. The latest response to As Ever’s social media promotion follows other online debate involving the Duchess of Sussex, including when she was criticised over a ‘contrived’ new barefoot Prince Harry clip shared online.
The scrutiny highlights how closely Meghan’s consumer brand rollout is being watched, as As Ever continues to push seasonal promotions and test its appeal to shoppers ahead of key retail moments.
