Taylor Swift’s Bombshell Text Confirms Song ‘Cancelled’ Is About Blake Lively
New court documents have revealed a text message from Grammy-winning singer Ms. Taylor Swift to actress Ms. Blake Lively, confirming that Swift’s 2025 song “Cancelled” is indeed about her friend. The much-discussed track, from Swift’s album “The Life of a Showgirl,” had long been speculated to reference tensions around the legal battle involving Ms. Lively and director Mr. Justin Baldoni.
According to documents obtained by Page Six, Ms. Swift sent a message to Ms. Lively referring to Mr. Baldoni as a “bitch” who “knows something is coming because he’s gotten out his tiny violin.” The phrase “tiny violin” is notably echoed in Swift’s lyrics in the song, where she sings, “Or bring a tiny violin to a knife fight? / Baby, that all ends tonight.” The song includes further references interpreted as allusions to betrayal and scandal, suggesting it stems from the fallout of their friendship caused by the high-profile lawsuit.
The legal drama began in January 2025 when Mr. Baldoni filed a $400 million lawsuit against Ms. Lively, her husband Mr. Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist, alleging defamation and extortion—allegations that were dismissed in June 2025. In the court filings, Ms. Lively also described Ms. Swift as one of her “most trusted partners” and used the term “dragons” to refer to loyal friends who protect her interests.
The court papers and text revelations have shed light on the private dynamics between the three celebrities amidst the public legal battle. Ms. Swift was subpoenaed to appear as a witness during the conflict, though the subpoena was later dropped. According to reports, Ms. Swift and Ms. Lively have had no contact since winter 2024, marking a significant shift in their long-standing friendship.
This development provides key context to the song “Cancelled,” confirming it as a direct response to personal and legal conflicts involving Ms. Lively and Mr. Baldoni, illustrating the complex intersections of celebrity, friendship, and public drama in the entertainment industry.
