Newly revealed court documents have exposed a series of text messages between singer Ms. Taylor Swift and actress Ms. Blake Lively that include harsh criticisms of director Mr. Justin Baldoni. According to the documents, Ms. Lively called Mr. Baldoni the “doofus director of my movie” and a “clown” in messages to Ms. Swift. In response, Ms. Swift called Mr. Baldoni a “bitch” and referenced a “tiny violin” ahead of a major New York Times article claiming a smear campaign against Ms. Lively.
The texts, obtained by Page Six, revealed that Ms. Lively asked Ms. Swift to endorse her revised script for the film “It Ends With Us” without Ms. Swift having read it, a claim made by Mr. Baldoni’s legal team. Ms. Swift reportedly responded by saying, “I’ll do anything for you!!”
Further messages suggest tension over Mr. Baldoni’s handling of the film’s trailer, particularly regarding the use of Ms. Swift’s song “My Tears Ricochet.” Ms. Swift remarked that Mr. Baldoni was not “strategic” in allowing her music to feature prominently, which Ms. Lively agreed was a mistake on Mr. Baldoni’s part.
Ms. Lively’s messages to Ms. Swift praised her as being “epically heroic” in an interaction with Mr. Baldoni and expressed frustration with his actions, including referring to him as a “clown” who was “falling for” Ms. Swift’s tactics but also resisting them. The documents further allege Ms. Lively disparaged Mr. Baldoni to other well-known industry figures, describing him as a “chaotic clown.”
The court documents show that Ms. Swift and Ms. Lively’s texts form part of the broader legal dispute surrounding the production of “It Ends With Us.” Reps for Ms. Lively, Ms. Swift, and Mr. Baldoni have not responded to requests for comment on the revelations.
