Police in the United Kingdom have charged a man accused of trespassing near the London home of Prince William and Kate Middleton just days before Christmas.
The Metropolitan Police said Derek Egan, 39, has been charged with trespassing on a protected site and breaking bail conditions. The information was confirmed in a statement shared with People Magazine.
Police say the charges are linked to two incidents on December 21 and December 23. On both occasions, Egan was arrested on suspicion of entering a restricted area near Palace Green in Kensington, an area that includes royal residences.
Prince William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, were not at home during the alleged incidents. They use part of Kensington Palace as their London residence, along with other members of the royal family.
According to reports, the royal family traditionally spends Christmas at Sandringham House, the country estate of King Charles III in Norfolk.
Historically, the royal family celebrated Christmas at Windsor Castle during the childhood of Queen Elizabeth II’s children. Since 1988, however, Sandringham has remained the family’s main holiday gathering place.
