The entertainment world is shocked and saddened by the deaths of filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. The couple were found dead from stab wounds inside their home in Brentwood, California, on Sunday, December 14.
Rob Reiner was well known for his long and successful career in movies. He directed many popular films, including the 1984 rock comedy This Is Spinal Tap. In 2025, he released a sequel called Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. The new movie included appearances by famous musicians Paul McCartney and Elton John, who both played themselves.
After the news broke, McCartney and John shared emotional messages online. McCartney said the loss was a tragedy and especially painful because he had worked closely with Reiner over the past year. He described Reiner as a positive, kind, and lovable man. McCartney also praised Rob for following in the footsteps of his father, Carl Reiner, and making many great films. He said he would always remember Rob fondly and was heartbroken that Rob and Michele were gone.
Elton John also shared his sadness, saying he was in disbelief. He described Rob and Michele as two of the most beautiful people he had ever met and said his thoughts were with their loved ones.
In Spinal Tap II, McCartney appears in a scene giving advice to the band, while Elton John performs with them during their final concert. Both artists also contributed songs to the movie’s soundtrack. Rob Reiner, who was 78, also appeared in the sequel, returning to his role as filmmaker Marty DiBergi.
