Reports suggest that Meghan Markle is feeling “hurt and humiliated” after the release of Victoria Beckham’s latest Netflix documentary, a project that’s earned rave reviews and drawn uncomfortable comparisons between the two women via Sky News.
The 44-year-old Duchess of Sussex, who signed her own multimillion-dollar deal with the streaming platform after stepping down from royal duties in 2020, is believed to be “shaken” by Beckham’s documentary success.
The three-part series on Victoria Beckham, which premiered on October 9th, chronicles the former Spice Girl’s journey from pop stardom to high-fashion royalty. It celebrates her transformation into a respected designer and businesswoman.
Although Beckham’s documentary did not surpass the ratings of her husband David Beckham’s series, it has received better critical reviews than Meghan’s projects, “With Love, Meghan.” On Rotten Tomatoes, Beckham’s series boasts a 44% Tomatometer score and a 77% audience score, while Meghan’s first season received scores of 38% and 33%, and the second season fared even worse with 17% and 27%.
“Meghan’s shaken by this,” a Hollywood insider told Radar Online on Sunday.
“Victoria has achieved exactly what she aspired to- moving seamlessly from celebrity to credible business figure. Meghan’s been trying to establish herself as a cultural powerhouse, but Victoria’s documentary has completely overshadowed her. It stings, no question about it.”
Interestingly, the two women were once close, introduced by their husbands Prince Harry, and David Beckham. The Beckhams attended the Sussexes’ 2018 royal wedding, and Meghan regularly wore Victoria’s designs during her time as a working royal- including for her engagement portraits. Both couples also lived near each other in the Cotswolds before relations reportedly soured.
