Victoria Beckham revealed in her new Netflix documentary that she had her breast implants removed in 2004 because she wanted to be taken more seriously in the fashion industry.
She first got breast implants in the 1990s, during her time as a pop star and as part of the famous “WAGs” group the wives and girlfriends of footballers, after marrying David Beckham in 1999. Back then, she was known for her glamorous style and was often seen with other WAGs like Coleen Rooney, Toni Terry, and Cheryl Cole, earning the nickname “Queen of WAGs.”
However, as Victoria began focusing on her fashion career, she felt it was time to change her image. She admitted that while she once enjoyed her “big boobs” and “big hair,” she wanted people to take her seriously for her talent and creativity, not just her looks.
Her friend and designer Roland Mouret played a big part in encouraging her decision. According to The Sun, she said, “I don’t know where those boobs went, but they went. It was definitely working with Roland that did it. He’s so great, and I wouldn’t have a career if it wasn’t for him.”
Victoria added, “It came from a need to be taken more seriously and me not knowing who I was. And so I think it was Roland that encouraged me to just be me — not feel I had to be that person. To just tone it down. And I think the nice thing about it is, then, I could just show myself through my collections.”
