Meghan Markle has taken another swipe at her time as a working royal, saying she didn’t feel like herself when she was forced to wear tights during official events.
The Duchess of Sussex, now 44, stepped down as a senior royal in 2020 with her husband, Prince Harry, and moved to the U.S. In a new interview with Bloomberg’s Emily Chang, Meghan said that constantly having to “wear nude pantyhose” as part of royal protocol felt “inauthentic” to her. She admitted she hadn’t even seen pantyhose outside of old movies from the 1980s and felt it was not her true self.
The former actress explained that, at the time, she wasn’t able to express herself freely. But now, with her Netflix show With Love, Meghan, she feels she can speak and act more naturally. Meghan said that being able to dress how she likes, say what she really feels, and live authentically makes her comfortable in her own skin. She added that at this point in her life, she doesn’t feel she has to prove anything to anyone.
The interview came out just as Netflix dropped the second season of her lifestyle series. Like the first season, the eight new episodes focus on home life, hobbies, and hosting tips, and include appearances from celebrity friends such as Chrissy Teigen, Tan France, and Jay Shetty.
However, critics in the UK were quick to slam the new season. The Telegraph gave it just two stars, calling it “needy” and “only marginally less mad” than the first season. The Times described it as “a series in search of a meaning,” while The Sun’s royal editor Matt Wilkinson dismissed it as “self-indulgent.”
