Meghan Markle has opened up about the pressure of constant media attention and how it could affect her children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.
In an interview with Emily Chang on The Circuit for Bloomberg Originals, released on August 26, Meghan spoke about wanting people to see her as a real person. She explained that the nonstop headlines and gossip often make her feel dehumanized, and even her close friends are forced to read harsh stories about her.
Meghan said that she is more than a public figure , she is a mother and a friend. She still does everyday things like taking her children to and from school, even though she has to do them under intense public scrutiny. She added that her children will eventually see the negative stories and gossip, which makes her even more aware of how she chooses to live.
She stated that, despite the noise, she continues to move through the world as herself. What she hopes, she said, is that people remember she is a human being, just like anyone else.
Meghan and Prince Harry moved to California in 2020 after stepping away from their royal duties. She has said their community in Montecito helps protect their family and gives them more privacy. Despite their unique situation, she and Harry try to give their children as normal a life as possible. For Meghan, that normal life includes nights out with Harry and their friends, going to restaurants and enjoying themselves like any other couple.
During the conversation, Meghan also touched on royal rules that she once found “inauthentic” and clarified her legal name after questions were raised in the first season of her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.
