A new book about the Duke of York has been revised to remove a claim that Jeffrey Epstein introduced Donald Trump to his wife, Melania via The Telegraph.
This allegation appeared in approximately 60,000 copies of ‘Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York’, authored by Andrew Lownie, which portrays a critical image of Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
The retraction follows a threat of legal action from Melania Trump against Hunter Biden, who claimed that Epstein introduced her to her future husband.
Lawyers representing the First Lady wrote to Mr. Biden, the son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, accusing him of making “false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements” regarding her.
The letter, sent on August 6th, reportedly demanded that Biden retract his comments and issue an apology or face a legal action of $1 billion (£726 million).
Trump stated that he had encouraged his wife to sue, insisting on Fox News Radio: “Jeffrey Epstein had nothing to do with Melania and introducing.”
He added: “It was another person actually… but it wasn’t Jeffrey Epstein.”
Mr Lownie’s book made a similar claim, quoting allegations said to have been made by Epstein to an unidentified author in 2007.
In the book Mr Lownie labelled Prince Andrew as “easy prey for a rattlesnake like Epstein”, adding: “Epstein played Andrew. The prince was a useful idiot who gave him respectability, access to political leaders and business opportunities. He found him easy to exploit.”
