Justin Timberlake is continuing his world tour, with shows scheduled through July. But he still has unfinished business related to his June DWI arrest in Sag Harbor last year. As part of a plea deal he made in September, Timberlake must complete 25 hours of community service and pay a $500 fine. However, according to his lawyer, he hasn’t yet decided which nonprofit he’ll work with.

His attorney, Eddie Burke Jr., told Patch that Timberlake has until mid-September to finish the required hours. Several Long Island nonprofits have already offered to welcome him, including Helping Makes U Happy in Center Moriches and Pet4luv Animal Rescue. Alisa McMorris, whose son died in a drunk driving accident, also hopes Timberlake will work with a group focused on raising awareness about impaired driving.

At his sentencing, the judge, Carl Irace, questioned the weight of the proposed punishment and had doubts about Timberlake’s plan to make a public service announcement (PSA) outside the courthouse. While the prosecution argued that Timberlake’s global fame would give any message widespread impact, Irace said he preferred something more meaningful, like traditional community service that encourages reflection and growth.

Timberlake admitted in court that he made a poor decision and hopes others can learn from it. He said he comes from a small town and understands the effect his actions had on the local community. He promised to use his platform to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving.

Although Timberlake’s lawyer maintained that his client was not intoxicated while driving, the case ended with Timberlake pleading guilty to a lesser charge: driving while ability impaired.
