Kate Middleton recently canceled her planned appearance at the Royal Ascot carriage procession, and some believe her vague reason of wanting “balance” has caused tension within the royal family.
One of Prince William and Kate’s friends said the couple was right to put Kate’s health first. They said it made no sense for her to be out in the hot sun with no shade or air conditioning if she wasn’t feeling well. They also pointed out that Kate attended both Trooping the Colour and the Order of the Garter ceremony earlier in the week.
Some royal insiders weren’t happy about the last-minute change. One said that the late Queen Elizabeth, who loved horse racing and saw Ascot as one of her favorite public events, would have been upset. They felt that skipping such a big honor with so little notice was disrespectful.
Another insider suggested that Kate and William aren’t very interested in horse racing. They even wondered if Kate would have still gone if it had been an event she loved, like Wimbledon.
Kate’s team didn’t give a clear reason for her decision. They didn’t say she had a cold or any specific illness, only that she was “disappointed” and was trying to find the right “balance” in her return to royal duties.
King Charles, who is still battling cancer, has been keeping up with a full schedule despite his condition. A friend of the King said he would likely be understanding of Kate’s decision because he knows how tough some days can be.
When asked if this shows a difference between how Charles and Camilla approach their duties compared to William and Kate, a source said Charles believes “the show must go on,” but also supports William and Kate’s choices.
