A spokesperson for Meghan Markle says neither she nor her team invited Dolly Parton to appear on her Netflix show With Love, Meghan, despite some reports claiming otherwise. NewsNation reached out to Dolly’s team for a comment, but no response yet.
Celebrity commentator Kinsey Schofield claimed Parton’s team was upset about being asked. She said they didn’t want Dolly’s image to be affected by being linked to Meghan, suggesting Meghan wanted Dolly to boost her own credibility in the lifestyle space.
With Love, Meghan debuted on Netflix in March 2024. Although critics gave it poor reviews, it was renewed for a second season. The first season reached No. 5 on Netflix’s Top 10 list but stayed there only six days. It currently has a 39% like rate on Rotten Tomatoes.
An insider said Netflix had already paid for and filmed the second season, and it’s scheduled to be released in the fall. They added that Netflix needs the second season to promote products tied to Meghan’s brand that couldn’t be included in the first season due to trademark issues.
Despite the negative feedback, Netflix is moving ahead, but insiders say the company is worried about the return on their investment.
