Meghan Markle is opening up about how motherhood turned out very different from what she imagined. During a recent episode of her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, Meghan talked honestly about becoming a mom to Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. She said she had always dreamed of being a mother and had a clear vision of what it would look like, including giving speeches with a baby on her hip. But reality didn’t match that picture.
“It was not the way I envisioned it,” the Duchess of Sussex admitted, laughing as she mentioned that there were a lot of outside pressures and challenges during both of her pregnancies.
Meghan gave birth to Archie in 2019 while still a working royal in the UK. She and Prince Harry left royal duties and moved to California in 2020, where they welcomed Lilibet the following year. By then, the couple had settled into their $14 million Montecito home.
Although Meghan has kept her children mostly out of the spotlight, she’s been opening up more lately. She’s shared parenting stories on her podcast and recently talked about her morning routine — from making breakfast to school drop-offs during an appearance on the Jamie Kern Lima Show.
Since returning to Instagram in January, she’s also posted more personal photos, including a sweet Mother’s Day picture holding both Archie and Lilibet. In the caption, she called being their mom “the greatest privilege” of her life.
