Miley Cyrus recently talked about how losing her Malibu home in the 2018 wildfire changed her life in a positive way. During a May 6 event for her new album Something Beautiful, she said that even though it was a hard time, losing everything helped her start fresh and be more careful about what and who she brings into her life.
At the time of the fire, Miley was living with her then-boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. They got married a month later, but ended their relationship eight months after that. Miley said the fire didn’t just destroy her house—it also marked the end of some important relationships. Still, she feels those losses helped her grow and feel more thankful.
Now in a new relationship with Maxx Morando, Miley said she wishes she had known earlier that hard times can lead to better ones. She said she would tell her younger self to be thankful for the tough moments because they help you find the good.
Earlier this year, as new wildfires hit Los Angeles, Miley shared a photo of her burned house from 2018 on Instagram. She said it brought back painful memories and described how heartbreaking it was to come home and find everything gone.
She ended her message by sending love to people affected by the new fires and said it hurts to see so much damage in a city known for dreams and success.
