Sean “Diddy” Combs, once a billionaire music mogul, is now in a Brooklyn jail as he waits for his sex trafficking trial. He is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center, where life is very different from the luxury he once enjoyed.
In jail, Combs uses $1 cans of mackerel, called “macks,” as money. He can also buy snacks like Snickers and Cheez-Its from the jail store, with money added by his family. Inmates at the jail are allowed to spend up to $180 every two weeks.
Combs is in a dorm-style unit called 4 North, which is more relaxed than other parts of the jail. There, inmates have access to a gym, TVs, and microwaves. They can also watch movies and listen to music on tablets, but there is no internet. Combs meets with his lawyers often and has a laptop to go through evidence for his trial, but his communications are closely watched by the government.
Though his life is far from the luxury he once had, Combs seems to be in a more comfortable area of the jail. His lawyers are concerned about the government watching his messages, but Combs denies the charges against him.
His trial is set to begin on May 12, 2024, and it remains to be seen how it will go.
