It all went down in a quick backstage Instagram bit with WWE’s Jackie Redmond—you know, one of those “fun” segments.
CM Punk, the man came out swinging with “The Beatles.” No hesitation. Not a flinch.
When Redmond’s jaw hits the floor, Punk doubles down. He opened up on The Beatles and called them “100% overrated, phoney boyband.”
Jackie asked Punk to explain himself. The former WWE Champion said: “Overrated, 100% overrated. A phoney boyband that was manufactured and went through bullshit phases. ‘Oh, we’re hippies now. We’re psychedelic now!’. Fuck you Sergeant Pepper!”
Now before we all grab pitchforks and mono LP pressings, let’s try to unpack this.
From his lens, The Beatles might look like the original industry-manufactured darlings. Early suits-and-ties Beatles were pop stars with haircuts. Then they went full acid-casbah on Magical Mystery Tour and The White Album, and to some critics (and apparently wrestlers), it felt like a branding pivot more than an artistic evolution.
And Punk? He smells inauthenticity like a bloodhound. He doesn’t care that Lennon wrote “Imagine” or that McCartney basically invented melodic bass playing. To him, it’s just four guys who ditched one costume for another and got deified for it.
Let’s not pretend wrestling and music haven’t collided before. Chris Jericho lives for it. Triple H air-guitars to Motörhead like his life depends on it. But this? This is different. This is an actual WWE superstar declaring war on the cultural gods of the last century.
And whether you agree or not, you’ve gotta admit—it’s kinda refreshing. We live in an era where everyone’s walking on eggshells and Punk just pulled out a sledgehammer and obliterated the egg carton.
Is CM Punk right about The Beatles being overrated? No. Of course not. That’s insane.
But is it entertaining as hell to hear him say it with that much fire in his eyes?
Yes. Absolutely. That’s the show, folks. So what do you think? Is Punk just trolling for clicks? Or does he have a point hidden somewhere between his F-bombs and his charisma?
