On Friday, he canceled a planned trip to Birmingham on medical advice after spending a short time in the hospital the day before. Instead, he left Clarence House in London to spend the weekend at his Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire.
The Palace has not shared details about the type of cancer he has or the specific side effects he experienced. However, a Palace source described this health issue as a “minor bump in the road” and said he is improving.
The King was reportedly in good spirits on Thursday evening, continuing some work and having dinner with Queen Camilla at Clarence House. He was seen waving to the public as he left London on Friday morning.
Despite ongoing treatment, King Charles has remained active with public engagements and diplomacy. He recently met world leaders like Ukraine’s President Zelensky and Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney. He also invited former U.S. President Donald Trump for a second state visit.
His public duties, which resumed in April, are expected to continue next week. In April, he is scheduled for a state visit to Italy, though his meeting with Pope Francis has been canceled due to the Pope’s health issues.
The King’s diagnosis was made public in February last year after doctors noticed concerns during treatment for an unrelated prostate issue. He chose to share the news to prevent speculation and raise awareness for others facing cancer.
