Pink Floyd legend David Gilmour seemingly has enough wealth to walk away from the band, he rejected a Pink Floyd reunion in a new video.
Speaking to Classic Rock about Pink Floyd, the guitarist said via Rock Celebrities: “I put the whole Pink Floyd thing to bed many, many years ago. I mean, it’s impossible to go back there without Rick, and I wouldn’t want to. It’s all done.”
He went on to say, “I’m very happy and satisfied with the little team I’ve got around me these days. We had a lot of offers to go and tour and so on and so forth, but I’m in this selfishly lucky position of having more than enough money and having had more than enough fame.”
Gilmour revealed: “I just don’t need that stuff these days. I wouldn’t want anyone to get the impression that I am not a hundred per cent happy and satisfied with the work I’ve done with Pink Floyd over the years, which were productive and satisfying and joyful, mostly. It’s fantastic. But my focus is different right now.”
The musician has an ongoing feud with his former Pink Floyd bandmate Roger Waters. Gilmour answered fan questions in an interview with The Guardian last year and said he won’t play with Waters again when asked.
He said, “Absolutely not. I tend to steer clear of people who actively support genocidal and autocratic dictators like Putin and Maduro [president of Venezuela].”
Gilmour added, “Nothing would make me share a stage with someone who thinks such treatment of women and the LGBT community is OK. On the other hand, I’d love to be back on stage with [late Pink Floyd keyboardist] Rick Wright, who was one of the gentlest and most musically gifted people I’ve ever known.”
