The 1975 Singer Addresses Taylor Swift After Rumors

Matty Healy from The 1975 recently spoke in an interview, where he seemingly commented on his past with Taylor Swift. He shared that he has no interest in writing music based on brief relationships. This statement follows speculation that Swift’s recent album, The Tortured Poets Department, may reference Healy, as fans believe the two had a short relationship in 2023. Swift has not confirmed that any of the album’s lyrics refer to Healy, and he has mostly stayed quiet on the rumors. However, Noel Gallagher brutally insulted Taylor Swfit as well.

“Last year I became a way more well-known public figure for loads of different reasons. The only reason that I was interested in is what I was doing. I think that a lot of artists, they become very interested in their lore, or they become interested in the things that have happened outside of their art that people know about and they want to address that, and fair enough.”

During his appearance on the Doomscroll podcast, Healy stated that while he used to write about relationships more often, he’s now less interested in artists who focus on “lore” over art. He suggested that he wouldn’t want to create songs inspired by the rumors or “casual romantic liaisons” tied to his fame, adding that the appeal of such topics fades over time.

Fans speculate that some lyrics on Swift’s album could reference Healy. For instance, in the title track, lyrics like “You smoked then ate seven bars of chocolate” are thought to hint at Healy’s public smoking and his band’s song Chocolate. Additionally, there’s a line that may nod to Lucy Dacus, with whom Healy was once close.

Some fans think The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived also alludes to Healy, with Swift singing about “Jehovah’s Witness suits,” similar to Healy’s onstage attire. However, not all tracks seem to focus on Healy; for example, So Long, London might reference Joe Alwyn, Swift’s former partner who lived in London, mentioning a “house by the Heath,” possibly hinting at Hampstead Heath in London.
