Fred Perry have brought on Gorillaz as the new faces of his brand, which makes sense as Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett are huge fans.
Fred Perry is doing the project with Gorillaz to celebrate their 20th anniversary of the debut self-titled album. Lead vocalist and keyboardist 2D is seen in the M3 One-Colour Fred Perry Shirt, bassist Murdoc Niccals has on the M12 Twin Tipped Fred Perry Shirt, guitarist Noodle is in the M12, and drummer Russel Hobbs wears the M12.
Gorillaz drummer Russel Hobbs spoke of the collaboration, referencing actor Denzel Washington, “My first Fred Perry shirt wasn’t actually mine, it belonged to Arthur Ashe. Like a cross between Barack Obama and Denzel Washington… he was an artist… he had style, he had an afro, he wore a pair of tiny shorts – and, of course, the classic Fred Perry tennis shirt. He even made a record called “How To Play Tennis”, I have that record. I still can’t play tennis. Love that shirt tho, it’s my favourite thing. Forty-Love to y’all…”
Fred Perry tweeted, “.@Gorillaz guitarist, Noodle wears the Original M12 Fred Perry Shirt in Brighton Blue / Ice / French Navy.”
