Daniel Craig may not be coming back to star in any new James Bond films, but he was rumored to be set to star in an upcoming Disney+ series for Marvel, in which he will portray the Asgardian warrior, Balder the Brave. His role will be as the half-brother of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Cate Blanchett’s Hela, and (by adoption) Tom Hiddleston’s Loki for his own show on Disney’s streaming platform.
Daniel Craig was originally slated as Balder the Brave, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The plan was to have Balder the Brave be one of the group known as the Illuminati encountered by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in a parallel reality, along with Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart, reprising his role from the Fox X-Men movies), Black Bolt (Anson Mount), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), Captain Britain (Hayley Atwell), and the Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards (John Krasinski).
The issue was that Daniel Craig was cut from the film and no scenes were filmed for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It is not known what the plot of a Daniel Craig Disney+ series is, but there is plenty of material featuring Balder the Brave in Marvel Comics to adapt.
When we take a look at the comic book version – Balder is the half-brother of Thor and technically, the heir to the throne of Asgard after the passing of their father Odin and Thor’s refusal to become king. Balder is also highly looked up to in the comics.
It will be interesting to see what Daniel Craig brings to the character for Marvel as Craig is known for how great he can be in any role that he steps into. It’s even more fun to think about what Craig can do in such an action packed film that will surely have a great story.
