Daniel Craig is the latest superstar who played the famous 007 character. He signed in 2006 during Casino Royale and his last was No Time To Die. Craig is one of those actors that wanted to create their own niche and so he had an unusual request to the producers.
Speaking on the official six-part podcast, Craig talked about how he convinced the producers that he wanted to play something different from his predecessors including Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan. The fact that it was accepted on the spot is an excellent point. He said:
The deal was, I said to [producers] Barbara [Broccoli] and Michael [G Wilson] before I read the script – it’s so arrogant, it’s ridiculous – I just said I can’t do an impression of something that’s come before. I can’t recreate what you’ve done before. Brilliant though that is, I can’t do it. I can’t come in and try and be something that people expect. I can come in and try and reinvent it, because that to me is fascinating and interesting.
Craig never wanted to be like his predecessors and even made his own offer that the producers couldn’t refuse. He said that he didn’t want anything to be of the type his previous actors did in the role. The producers were up for the same and did value his opinion in this regard.
Craig did the role for a considerable time before calling it off on the franchise. There’s no word if he would continue to be in the franchise in any capacity, it looks like the actor may be done with the franchise for good. The actor has pulled the plug on the role and someone else has been cast for the role now. The name however remains unknown.
Do you know the name of the actor signed for the role? Sound off in the comments.
