Coldplay fans on Reddit are not thrilled with ticket prices for an upcoming show. ZackHario posted, “I’ve seen Coldplay in London 5 years ago and I’ve paid about 120 quid for the ticket and I didn’t even get one until after a few days. Now? 400+ Pounds for one ticket in Cardiff (Which is generally cheaper because it’s not London and I live closer to Cardiff.) The fact that Ticketmaster created an environment for resellers and for themselves to make money off people like us is criminal. It’s price scalping, pure and simple.”
Coldplay’s Will Champion recently told Apple Music About The Band’s Mindset Following Up Their Debut Album ‘Parachutes’…
“I don’t think we ever had a specific discussion saying we have to do something different. I think the nature of your first album, as everyone knows that’s the old sort of adage, your first album takes a lifetime. And then the reason why second records can be difficult is because you only have the time between finishing your first record and starting your second record to write and to draw on those experiences from that time.
So I don’t think we ever specifically said, ‘Right, we can’t do this,” or, “We can’t do that.” I think it was a result of starting to play live a lot more. I think that’s the main thing. I think our first album is basically the sound of Johnny’s bedroom and kind of some small rehearsal studios in north London, somewhere very deliberately, or just naturally quite… small introverted and intimate spaces. And then I think because songs like “Yellow” allowed us to start to play in bigger places and start to have a bit more of a broader horizon…and maybe that’s slightly oversimplifying it, but I really feel like the process of playing live so much over the period of that first record and seeing what we wanted to see from audiences, which was to get physicality and movement out of them and saying, We love this.
How do we get more of this?” So I think it was a natural progression, really. We didn’t set out and as I said, have a big band meeting say, “Right, we got to throw that away and let’s start fresh.” But it was definitely a case of, “Let’s do something that really captures because we’re playing really well at the moment. We’re playing live. We’re playing a lot. We are really well rehearsed and we’re gelling. So let’s try and get something out of that. Let’s try and get that on record.”
