Up to your arse in heat? So annoyed by the never-ending headlines about baby George? Then you must – MUST! – make plans for next month. After all, you know this baby nonsense will be completed by then, right? (The heat? We can only hope, lest we all melt away.)
We’ve previously mentioned the appearance by Suede at Live By The Lake at Kenwood House, but the support announcement gives you twice the reason to circle Friday, Aug. 23. That’s because Britpop gods Suede will be preceded by British Sea Power and Teleman. (As if Suede weren’t enough.)
For the official record, and acting as if you don’t already know this, BSP has been declared the “best band in Britain” by the Sunday Times. Their latest album, Machineries Of Joy is a creative high, a superbly composed, multi-stylistic tour de force. Beautifully mechanised rhythms sit alongside wind-blasted Brontë-rock cinematics.
Here’s what is being said about BSP:
“A triumph of sophisticated rock engineering,” Q Magazine.
“Mesmeric… consistently impressive,” Mojo.
“Majestic and full of nuance,” Record Collector.
A recent poll of BBC 6 Music listeners placed the British Sea Power track “Remember Me” at No. 9 on the list of the 100 most important tracks of the station’s lifetime. BSP have played concerts at the Great Wall of China and London’s Natural History Museum. Now you can see them in the totally stunning setting of Kenwood House as a set-up for Suede.
And then there are Teleman, who turn the entire experience into Britpop paradise. In a recent interview for i-D magazine, Suede frontman Brett Anderson named Teleman among his top five favourite new bands alongside Foals and These New Puritans.
So what do they sound like? Their music is described as Robert Wyatt meets Pet Shop Boys meets The Velvet Underground, which speaks to the uniqueness of Teleman’s sound.
Want more? Like we wouldn’t help. To celebrate the return of these well-loved summer concerts, Live By The Lake would like to offer Britpop News readers the chance to win two standard entry tickets. Simply retweet this:
“Win 2 tickets to see SUEDE @livebythelake on 23rd August via. @britpopnews. RETWEET TO WIN!”
And you’re entered. Suede, BSP and Teleman, outdoor show, lovely setting, no more baby news and (pray) no more heat. Absolutely brill.
