Well, it’s hardly surprising. The UK’s biggest Britpop night has outgrown its first venue.
Known for selling out their events and doing it with trademark style, Star Shaped have gone from strength to strength since launching in February. In light of their surging popularity, Star Shaped have moved from The Garage’s upstairs room to its main room (Highbury Corner, London). To celebrate, their October event will feature none other than My Life Story’s Jake Shillingford.
Shillingford will play a live set of My Life Story hits from 11:30pm before taking to the decks for a DJ set.
My Life Story enjoyed a string of chart hits in the 90s and were at the heart of the Britpop movement, being huge live favourites with their flamboyant shows and loyal fanbase (sounds like Star Shaped’s perfect fit…). The band scored six Top 40 hits, including ’12 Reasons Why I Love Her’, ‘Strumpet’ and ‘Sparkle’, described by Melody Maker at the time as: “Satisfying escapism. Taking life’s mundanities and making them magical.” While Smash Hits said: “12 Reasons Why” is the best pop single of last year not to feature the Spice Girls.”
While there’ s nothing wrong with the Spice Girls, you can’t see them on tour at the moment, can you? You can, however, go and see My Life Story, who will be playing an 11-date national tour in October and November. Curiously, the band aren’t playing a London gig, so Star Shaped’s October special will be your only chance to catch Shillingford live in the capital.
The October 3 event will also feature “a few other surprises”, including the launch of the official Star Shaped cocktail. What does it entail? Well, there’s only one way to find out…
As usual, Star Shaped will provide a full night of fun, fuelled by a heady dose of classic Britpop tunes, with music by:
