Right in the middle of festival season, it’s time for something daringly different. Forget frozen drinks and barbecues in the sun – check out what our friends at Star Shaped Club have cooked up.
Headlining a bumper August 1 event, Menswe@r main man Johnny Dean will play a special DJ set. Dean is the founding member of Menswe@r, who had a string of top 40 singles in the mid-90’s and made BBC television history by being the first act to appear on Top of the Pops without having released a record.
2015 sees the 20th anniversary of Menswe@r’s debut album Nuis@nce. The band will be playing the whole album later in the year, but you can see Dean in his element on August 1st at The Garage (Highbury Corner, London). Doors open at 10:30pm, with Dean taking charge from about midnight.
Before Johnny Dean takes the stage, Star Shaped will feature the antics of Jonny Abrams – a man and a guitar who specialises in performing whole Britpop albums in just 10 minutes. Abrams will be playing the whole of I Should Coco, Parklife & Different Class inside 30 minutes from around 11:15pm.
Perhaps the best thing about this summer bonanza is the generous nature of the club. Star Shaped will be hanging out masks of everyone’s favourite Britpop stars to create the most Britpop Masked Ball you’ve ever been to (or the only?). Star Shaped advise guests to arrive early as masks will be handed out on a first come, first served basis.
Star Shaped, upstairs at The Garage (Highbury Corner, London) from 10:30pm until 4am.
As usual, Star Shaped will provide a full night of fun, fuelled by a heady dose of classic Britpop tunes, with songs by:
