Damon Albarn treated fans to an acoustic version of his new song, ‘Lonely, Press Play’ off his forthcoming solo album, Everyday Robots during his BBC 2 interview with Dermot O’Leary on Monday. ‘Lonely, Press Play’ was debuted at Albarn’s intimate acoustic gig at the Sundance Film Festival last month. While that acoustic take was accompanied by a string section, this further stripped-down version has a gentle sadness that is magnificent in its simplicity. Albarn also did a beautifully sparse cover of ‘Seasons In The Sun’ during the broadcast. The song, made famous by Terry Jacks in 1974, was originally adapted from a song by the Belgian singer-songwriter Jacques Brel. You can listen to both of Albarn’s songs below and the full interview here.
Albarn’s acoustic performance from Sundance is now online, as well. You can now listen to his new songs ‘Lonely, Press Play,’ ‘Hollow Ponds,’ and ‘You And Me.’ He also did rare solo performances of Gorillaz’ ‘On Melancholy Hill‘ and Blur’s ‘To The End.’
