Luther actor Idris Elba has reignited his feud with Liam Gallagher in a cover story published in the October GQ. The pair had a confrontation this past February at a party following the NME Awards. The row was allegedly caused over Elba’s choice in headgear: a woolen cap that Gallagher ‘must have thought looked silly because he tried to grab it.’ In an interview with the Guardian earlier this year, Elba confirmed the cause of the hat-centric altercation but insisted that it was a just a ‘little exchange of words.’ The actor, who has previously starred in the critically-acclaimed show the Wire, continued, ‘It got blown out of proportion…[,but] it was a good hat, man. I guess he just took against it.’
During the summer, Elba was being covered by GQ while he had several dj sets scheduled in Ibiza. He ended one of his sets with Oasis’ hit ‘Wonderwall,’ which piqued the writer’s interest. When asked if playing the song was a shot at Gallagher, Elba responded, ‘No! Fuck that idiot. No.’
He took the opportunity to explain precisely what happened on the night of their run-in while getting in a jab or two about the Beady Eye front man. According to Elba, he met Gallagher in a bar and greeted him with a hug and by rubbing him affectionately on the head. Gallagher ‘didn’t like that. Don’t touch his hair, apparently. Fuck off. Next time walk with a fucking hairdresser, then.’ He continued to mock Gallagher: ‘Well, ‘I’m a popular rock singer, so I’m going to be mean and fucking horrible to people just because they messed up my look.’ I played [‘Wonderwall’] because his song’s a classic. I couldn’t — I don’t even know what his songs are about now or what band he’s in now. No one gives a fuck, yeah? He was popular when he was in Oasis.’
Your move, Mr. Gallagher.
