Pretty Green, Liam Gallagher’s stylish fashion label, has previewed its Spring/Summer 2014 collection. The new designs take their inspiration from the bold psychedelia of the Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour. The brand is deeply influenced by the styles which exemplify the personality and rebellion of rock n’ roll. Clearly, its lineage prevails across the breadth of this upcoming collection and honors Britain’s music heritage in classic style.
Fans can anticipate a unique blend of classic sixties and modern designs. The basis for the SS14 collection may be the colorful graphics and shapes of the sixties, but the modern Pretty Green twists suggest an attitude that is rooted in the 21st century. Pretty Green says the collection ‘uses many of the strong graphical images from Magical Mystery Tour, which are manipulated to create a new fresh set of prints.’ The new pieces that were previewed at the Covent Garden shop feature dynamic all-over-prints, pops of graphics, and explosions of bright colors.
Pretty Green’s design director, Pat Salter commented on SS14: ‘There is such a rich tapestry of inspiration to draw on when you look back over our great British music history. The Magical Mystery Tour is one of those events that sticks out as a moment in time. We don’t want to replicate; we’re just immersed in trying to recapture the feel of all that interesting British melting pot of colour and style.’
The new set of prints are especially noteworthy. Pretty Green developed a signature paisley influenced by the palette of kaleidoscopic colors from the Magical Mystery Tour. The paisley incorporates the Pretty Green logo in the design in such a way that it blends effortlessly into the print. They have integrated a star symbol — either printed, embroidered, or devore — into several pieces and have introduced a walrus badge featured throughout the range.
The main influence for the Spring/Summer collection was the original jackets worn by the Beatles for the Magical Mystery Tour. The classic ‘Fool On The Hill’ jacket, as worn by Paul McCartney, features strong military stylings and is made from a lightweight Italian nylon. The Harrison denim jacket has a washed-out, lived-in look that will complement many styles. The Stadium jacket is similar to the sort of fashions Liam Gallagher wears while on stage but with a decidedly sixties edge. The highlight of the outerwear collection is the leather ‘Egg Man’ jacket, which is described as having ‘a second skin feel..with a hardware edge.’
More casual pieces include t-shirts with bold designs claiming ‘We are altogether’ and ‘We love.’ Ultimately, this season’s range will deliver a mixture of signature outerwear pieces, paisley shirts, and Gallagher’s inimitable streetwear. Pretty Green will also be offering a more affordable collection for the next season, so even mods on a budget can look good.
