Devoted entirely to the Britpop scene and promising brilliant music and brilliant fun, the aptly named Star Shaped Club is opening its doors to music fans this February. Labeling itself as a monthly Britpop party, Star Shaped will take over upstairs at The Garage (Highbury Corner, London) from 10:30pm until 4am every first Saturday of the month.
Star Shaped’s launch party will take place on Saturday the 7th of February and will feature acclaimed Mansun tribute band Taxloss Lovers. Described as “amazingly accurate” by Mansun frontman Paul Draper himself, Taxloss Lovers recently played sold out nights in Manchester. They also organised the hugely successful Mansun Convention that was held in Chester last year, so are no doubt primed to kick things off at Star Shaped.
Taking to the stage at 11pm, Taxloss Lovers will play a combination of singles and album tracks. Following Taxloss Lover’s set, Star Shaped will host a heady mix of dance, drink, and – of course –classic Britpop tunes. The extensive and varied list of artists that Star Shaped will play include:
Suede, Blur, Pulp, Elastica, Oasis, Menswe@r, Marion, Gene, Sleeper, Ash, Echobelly, Wannadies, OCS, Mansun, Divine Comedy, Salad, Stone Roses, Charlatans, Lush, Longpigs, Shed Seven, Super Furries, Bluetones, Inspiral Carpets, Kenickie, Supergrass, Manics, Dubstar, Teenage Fanclub, Placebo, McAlmont & Butler, Space, Republica, Garbage, Tiger, These Animal Men, Kula Shaker, Lightning Seeds, Ride, Dodgy, Saint Etienne, Geneva, etc.
“Basically, if it was on a Shine compilation, it’s in,” Star Shaped asserts. “Come and party like it’s 1995!”
